Abstract

This research article addresses the issue of the lack of signage in the ITMA and Pablo Correa León schools in Cúcuta, Colombia.
The study is initiated based on previous research highlighting the importance of adequate signage for safety and behavior in school
environments (Rodríguez & Sánchez, 2018; Gómez & López, 2020). These antecedents identify the causes of deficient signage and
propose viable solutions, aiming to improve the safety and well-being of the school communities through a comprehensive signage
plan.
The results indicate that the main cause of inadequate signage is insufficient allocation of resources and a lack of regulations for
school signage, which can lead to accidents in school zones, as indicated by the studies of Pérez and Martínez (2017). The conclusions
drawn from the study highlight the need to implement a signage plan that includes specific vehicular and pedestrian needs for each
school. The hypothesis that signage positively influences safety and the school environment was confirmed, validating theories such
as Hall's Environmental Semiotics (1966) and Barker's Environmental Psychology (1955), which emphasize the impact of the physical
environment on behavior and well-being
