Reasons that prevent the opening of international markets in footwear SMEs in Cúcuta

This article will explore the reasons why small and medium-sized footwear companies in Cúcuta, Argentina, are unable to access international markets. The research methodology employed was both qualitative and quantitative. This approach aimed to identify the causes and realities of these companies by observing their internal relationships and practices. Similarly, it sought to establish a description based on export statistics from different footwear-producing regions and importing countries. The findings revealed that these companies have been managed by their owners, who have held numerous positions throughout their existence, ranging from operators to managers. This has prevented the companies from giving sufficient importance to the productive development of each functional area of the organization, as their primary goal has been to overcome daily challenges rather than developing strategies aimed at opening new markets. It is concluded that due to their limited knowledge of the importance of strengthening organizational, productive, and commercial structures, SMEs are poorly prepared to face the new challenges of competition and the market.
