Types of tourism with potential development in Norte de Santander

Abstract

The tourism sector in the Norte de Santander department is largely underdeveloped and poorly understood. This is due to a lack of integration among the region's political and social entities. It is essential to analyze all possible types of tourism and select those with the greatest development potential to stimulate the region's economy. Currently, the focus is not only on making tourism a sustainable activity, but also on recognizing its potential and the existing human needs for recreation, leisure, family time, and as a complement to work. Tourism is intimately linked to the environmental quality of the surrounding area. The Health Tourism Cluster strategy is currently underway, developing initiatives aimed at creating and strengthening the department's tourism infrastructure, including the new Medical Duarte Clinic (free trade zone), the MIO Hotel, and the Holiday Inn Hotel, among others.
