The world on the brink of the abyss

Abstract

The purpose of this work was to examine the context of human beings and how they live in a world on the brink of an unprecedented environmental crisis, characterized by pollution, global warming, and the depletion of natural resources. This crisis is compounded by the sixth mass extinction of species, a crisis brought about by human activity since the first industrial revolution, with the advent of steam engines and the rise of capitalist societies. These societies fostered a consumerist society characterized by a lack of environmental awareness, rendering people indifferent to their responsibilities toward the environment. This analysis employed a documentary methodology approach, resulting in the presentation of several proposed solutions to this crisis, including contributions from software engineering.
