Abstract

This research focuses on the informal sector and its consequences. Informality is a scourge that has plagued society for many years, negatively impacting the formal economy. Problem: This issue arises from a lack of job alternatives, displacement, barriers to accessing credit, and unemployment, as well as a lack of infrastructure, investment from the government, private companies, and public sector entities, and a lack of jobs that comply with legal requirements. Objective: To develop strategies to reduce informality in the city of Cúcuta in 2017. Methodology: This explanatory research aims to answer several questions, employing a mixed-methods approach that utilizes both quantitative and qualitative variables in the survey design. This data was then used to generate statistical information and obtain the results. Results: The study concludes that the high rate of informality is caused by a lack of opportunities and the costs associated with joining the formal sector.
