The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the university students of the city of Medellin, Colombia, regarding the consumption of alcohol. A survey was applied to 1200 individuals, whose age ranged between 18 and 25 years. For processing the information, the technique exploratory factor analysis was used, finding significant difference between sexes (p<0.05), in the way they perceive the consumption of liquor. In conclusion, it is emphasized that drinking alcoholic beverages affects more the male sex in relation to academic performance.
