Birdwatching as a potential tourist attraction in San José de Cúcuta

Abstract

Birdwatching is one of the most popular activities worldwide and a key tourist attraction in many countries. Colombia, with its rich bird diversity, has great potential to explore this market, which has been largely overlooked in our country. There are few qualified professionals to offer these tours because the requirements are high, including bilingualism, knowledge of each bird's migration patterns and habitats, and their specific behaviors in different locations. Currently, although we lead the world in species diversity, we are among the least developed for this type of tourism. Therefore, it is crucial to raise awareness that this is a potential we, as a city, can capitalize on. The city of Cúcuta possesses the geographical and environmental resources to be one of the best places for birdwatching.
