The following review article aims to identify a place of enunciation of university social responsibility (RSU) in the context of the current challenges of higher education. It is a work that takes place within the framework of a doctoral research project that seeks to analyze and problematize the perspective of social projection or the so-called RSU projects in the context of higher education in Colombia and its relationship with society. The methodology used is a part of an exploratory documentary review, which brings together documents between articles, books, papers, conferences and doctoral thesis a Latin and Ibero-American level. The development of the review allows us to identify important areas of reflection, among which are, the RSU and the modes of subjectivation evident in the line of knowledge, ethics and politics; in the same way they make visible aspects to think about the university-society relationship. In conclusion, it is evident that the vast majority of research remains endogenous, which implies the challenge of doing comparative research that focuses, among others, on reflecting on the ethos and purpose of higher education from a perspective that includes the role and the social function of the university. In the same way, it is relevant to include in the research works, critical perspectives that analyze the level and perspective of the response that universities have to the political responsibility that higher education currently has.
