Abstract

This study analyzes how the presence of harmonics influences the integrity of the rotating magnetic field in three-phase electrical machines. Through simulations with distorted currents, the specific effect of each harmonic component on the shape of the resulting magnetic field is evaluated. It was observed that homopolar harmonics do not alter the rotating magnetic field, while positive-sequence harmonics induce internal deformations, and negative-sequence harmonics cause outward deformations. Additionally, active mitigation techniques are discussed, and both harmonic sequence and spectrum are examined in depth. The findings highlight that harmonic distortion can reduce torque and efficiency in three-phase electrical systems.
