Abstract

Colombia and Venezuela have had a history of integration, with deep ties at the commercial level, which have been maintained. However, this has been affected by the political and ideological differences of the presidents on duty. Since August 19, 2015, the Venezuelan government decided to close the border with Colombia, a situation that has generated different conflicts and negative effects in the social, humanitarian and economic dimensions both in the city of San José de Cúcuta and its metropolitan area, as in the border area corresponding to the Venezuelan territory. The objective of this article is to characterize the manufacturing sector of the city of San José de Cúcuta as a result of the Colombian-Venezuelan crisis, based on a quantitative study with the participation of 129 companies that served as a sample. A questionnaire was used for this purpose. The latter was validated through expert judgment and Cronbach's Alpha. The results obtained, the discussion of the findings and the research conclusions are shown. According to the results obtained, it is observed that the companies in the manufacturing sector have suffered decreases in sales and profits as a result of the crisis between Colombia and Venezuela, and have not been able to carry out adequate financial management to face the limitations. It is recommended to delve into strategic alliances and union associations, since synergy and business associativity add value to companies.
